What is lesson shape?

The lesson shape of a particular content is related to the time frame available to the teacher. Likewise, lesson shape is also related to the coherence of elements of a lesson plan and inclusion of varieties of activities in the classroom. Whether the time is shorter or longer for a lesson, the formal shape of the lesson is alike, but only the activities may be reduced or added depending upon the length of time.
The beautiful shape of lesson contains mainly three overlapping procedures: engage, study and activate. Each of the procedures might contain a variety of activities depending upon the time frame and the course objectives for example, a teacher might engage his students by cracking jokes, asking questions related to judgement, analysis, evaluation, criticism, discussion, meditation, etc or let them read some text and draw key points, etc.

What is classroom management?

As actual teaching takes place in the classroom, the classroom should be well-equipped and properly managed to create effective learning environment. Classroom management includes teachers' activities, student participation, seating arrangement, students' groupings, installation of various teaching aids and use of them etc. It also includes teachers' awareness of the whole class about what is going on, what will be happening, how students are reacting, etc. Since, the teaching success depends on the location, means of instruction, proper management of mixed ability of students and their involvement etc. Proper classroom management is of great assistance in teaching.

What are planning questions?

Planning questions are those mental thoughts which a teacher has before he or she actually prepares a lesson plan. It is quite natural a teacher needs to surround himself or herself with a multitude of possible quetions and thoughts from different angles. As a redult, a relevant plan can be drafted depending upon experience, knowledge and skill of the teacher, level, need and interest of the students, and the nature of the course. Planning questions might be different. To be specific, Jeremy Harmer (2008) initiates seven questions for planning questions:
i.         Who exactly are the students for these activities?
ii.       What do we want to do and why?
iii.      How long will it take?
iv.     How does it work?
v.       What will be needed?
vi.     What might go wrong?
vii.    How will it fit with what comes before and after it?
