Similarities between Precis and Summary:
- Structurally one third of the original text, maintaining the order that of the original text, the skeleton of the original, in complete sentences
- Substantially/factually only the important points, no additional ideas.
- Functionally providing the gest of the original, helping the readers to draw on the main ideas.
Differences between precis and summary:
- Summary one third or can be more whereas precis a concised summary or can be less than one third.
- All main points in summary, but only the essential points in precis
- Summary uses the language of the text, but precis can use the language of the writer.
- The order of the original for precis, but basically not neccesary for summary
- Precis always writen, but summary can be both writen or spoken
- Precis is older term than summary.
